An oil filter is a filter that removes contaminants from the engine oil. When we are talking about a Motorcycle the main use of the oil filter is in internal-combustion engines.  Many companies are into the manufacturing of Oil Filters.  K & N is one of them and I think the best.

Originally developed for demanding auto race applications, their premium automotive oil filter is rapidly becoming a favorite among consumers for its durability and easy removal. They came up with changed oil filters as several of their product development technicians are sportsman class drag racers. An oil filter that corrected the “headaches” they experienced over the years changing oil filters.

Types of Oil Filters:

1. Heavy-Duty Construction for Extreme Conditions:

To fulfill the demand of racers,  these oil filters have many features over and above the requirements of most vehicles. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. This extra engineering offers peace of mind for consumers who want only the best.

2. Canister Type Oil Filters:

  • Drilled safety wire holes for racing in canister oil filters.
  • Heavy-duty construction.
  • Anti-drainback valve eliminates dry starts.
  • Rolled threads provide extra protection against stripping.

3. High-Flow Rate

High filter flow rates are important in racing vehicles where heavier grade oil is used and the oil is pumped much faster than in a standard vehicle.

Uniqueness:

  • K & N Oil Filters use a cellulose media bound by phenolic resin surrounding a metal inner core that provides structural strength to reduce the risk of filter collapse.
  • Oil filters include an anti-drainback valve, when applicable, that prevents oil from draining back into the crankcase during engine shutdown.
  • Uses rolled threads to help prevent stripping during installation or removal and an internally lubricated gasket provides a positive seal even after the filter has been removed and reinstalled.

spoke-wheel

A spoke is one of some number of rods radiating from the center of a wheel, the hub where the axle connects.
Motorcycle wheels typically use 36 or 40 spokes, of much heavier gauge. They are never “interlaced” in the manner described below, nor are “radial” builds.
Adequate spoke tension is very important with motorcycle wheels, because of the greater torque applied to the wheel by an engine or disc brake.
Every motorcycle has a specific wheel and hence the spokes used in these also varies. They come in different sets according to the requirement.

Spoking Pattern:

  • Three-Cross: The most common spoking pattern is “three-cross” where each spoke crosses three others on the same flange of the hub before meeting the rim.
  • Two-Cross: Here the spokes do not cross each other, saves roughly the weight of two spokes, because the spokes are shorter as compared to a three-cross wheel used for hubs with large-diameter flanges.
  • Four-cross: These are standard for spoke counts of 40 and above used in motorcycle Wheels.

Spoke length:

  • The correct length of spokes required can be calculated using rim diameter, hub flange diameter, hub width, lacing pattern, and number of spokes.
  • These calculations can be done either by hand or by using a computer.
  • An alternative method is to refer to a table which has the spoke lengths for a number of common hub and rim combinations.

Spoke Metal:

  • The wheel rims are usually steel or aluminum, that is steel spokes and an aluminum hub or mag-type cast or machined aluminum.
  • Performance racing motorcycles often use carbon-fiber wheels, but the expense of these wheels is very high for general usage.

The American Industry is experiencing the return of many a boomer, one is Vintage. Even marques like Ducati and Triumph have stylised their entire range. And while Ducati’s SportClassic and Triumph’s Modern Classic motorcycles are the most prolific examples of the modern vintage niche – they are far from alone. Moto Guzzi has built “classic” models alongside its high-performance Twins, and Royal Enfield survives solely off vintage-inspired units. Even Honda floated a production vintage test balloon when it debuted the ‘80’s-styled CB1100F concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007.The success of the modern vintage niche is hard to argue against, with Triumph’s Parallel Twin-powered Modern Classics, of which the Bonneville is the flagship, a stalwart of the Trumpet line. The expansion of Ducati’s SportClassic line with the GT1000 Touring in 2009 is a clear signal its retro seeds have reaped financial rewards for the Italian marque as well.

While thinking of buying a bike its hard not to think of Harley Davidson. Mostly every bike enthusiast has a Harley Davidson on Top of his wish list.
But Do you get what you pay for?
I was wondering if Harley’s are worth the difference in price, or do we just pay for the name?
Though buying name is not cool enough a reason, to pay such a huge amount.
More reasons clear my doubts, like

* Motorcycles come in many different styles and it is important to match the bike to your riding style and expectations.
* Harley Davidson is known more for their cruiser and custom style bikes than for sport bikes, even though the Sportster falls under the sport bike category to some degree.
* The riding style is important since this will directly effect the riding experience.
* If taking long road trips then buying a sport bike isn’t the best choice.
* Avoid making the mistake of buying a motorcycle that is beyond the riding ability.
* Buying a motorcycle that is too big or advanced will either end up as a discouraged rider or worse to an injury.
* while selecting a motorcycle look for skill, maneuver and managing ability of the rider.
* Harley manufactures good bikes and their parts are also easy available.
* A “true” cruiser created by America with a history behind it.
* A good point for American Patriots and all the profits to stay in America too.

Though you pay a bit more its joy and pride is every bit worth Harley Davidson bike.

Harley-Davidson to sell motorcycles in India in 2010, Lets hope economic growth will help the sales to speed up.

Harley-Davidson Inc. says it will begin selling its motorcycles next year in India in the company’s latest push into developing markets overseas.

Harley says it has established a subsidiary near Delhi and has begun scouting for dealers. The Milwaukee-based company is hoping its high-end, heavyweight bikes will compete with the well-established, smaller two-wheelers that dominate the huge Indian bike market.

The company says India’s rapidly growing economy, rising middle class and expanded highway construction have opened the market to leisure motorcycle enthusiasts.

The move marks Harley’s latest push into developing markets overseas, where it hopes rising incomes and the company’s strong brand will help offset flagging sales at home.
